Simrad Yachting, a global leader in the manufacture of leisure navigation electronics, is getting on board an icy challenge through its sponsorship of a 1000 mile RIB expedition from the north of Scotland to the Arctic Circle.
As part of the deal, the eight-man crew taking part in the GORE-TEX Arctic RIB Challenge will set off next month on their adventure with Simrad YachtingÕs award-winning, lightning-fast chart-plotter/multifunction display, the NSE8. The crew can feel confident in remaining on target given the NSE8Õs ability to provide seamless navigation at high speeds and capture essential data needed for the Marine Conservation Zone Project.
Simrad Yachting is also supplying the team with its new Broadband 3GTM Radar system, which is uniquely suited to small boats, and has proven itself in recent radar group tests to be far superior to competing technologies.
And to stave off the blues on their icy
endeavour, the crew can bop to their favourite tunes thanks to Simrad YachtingÕs marine audio server, the SonicHubTM, which plays music from an iPod or MP3 player but also provides a secure space for the portable device in the event of rough seas or wild dance moves.
The six-day voyage will see two 6-metre Suzuki-powered Humber RIBs depart from the north of Scotland and travel, via the Shetland Isles, up the west coast of Norway to the Arctic Circle in order to demonstrate how even moderate-sized RIBs can be capable of extraordinary achievements with the assistance of cutting-edge technology.
Simrad Yachting's NSE8 system is capable of withstanding the most rugged of conditions and users can enhance the system to make it an all-in-one AIS transceiver and first-rate
echosounder/fishfinder, as well as incorporating autopilot control and engine performance display.
George Pollard, Managing Director of Navico UK Ltd, said: ÒThe Simrad NSE8 is stunningly fast and can be fully integrated with the AP24 and AP28 Marine autopilots, providing unrivalled technology to smaller vessels.
On this trip, the Simrad-equipped team will also be using the new Broadband 3GTM radar, outright winner of the recent head-to-head radar group test, which was noted as being uniquely suited to small boats, and the SonicHubTM audio system will provide the team with entertainment along the way."
Precision Navigation, of Brantham in Suffolk, was used for the installation and a stainless steel PowerTower from Scanstrut helped mount the radar.
