About us

Simrad Heritage

Right from the beginning, the history of Simrad brand has been filled with entrepreneuers and pioneers whose hard work, passion and technical insight have formed one of the world's most recognized brands in the field of marine electronics.

The story started in 1947, when Willy Simonsen began producing high quality radios for fishing vessels. By combining the first three letters of the founder's name, and those of his first product, the Simrad name was created and from then until the present day Simrad brand has been synonymous with high quality marine electronic products.

With over 60 years at the front of product innovation, Simrad marine electronics have succeded in being consistently rated as some of the most robust systems available in the market for both professional and recreational mariners. The first advanced auto steering system launched for the professional market was a Simrad autopilot and after winning more auto steering awards than all its competitors combined the brand continues to lead the sector in product development without compromise.

The Simrad brand manufactures a wide range of equipment, including systems for navigation, auto steering, safety, communications and fishfinding, all designed and built for mariners that truly seek to master the elements.
