The Glass Bridge, a trademark of Simrad Yachting, is regarded as one of the most desirable and flexible integrated navigation systems on the market today. It is available in one version - the Simrad GB40 - both of which combine three-dimensional vector charts, high-definition radar, high-performance fish finding and multimedia capability within a powerful processor that can be connected to multiple display units.
The Glass Bridge has been specially designed by Simrad Yachting to provide owners of large yachts with a complete overview of their surroundings and comprehensive control of their craft. The Simrad GB40 are particularly flexible due to the use of powerful technology housed in a central processor, known as a black box, which can be configured to display more than a dozen different applications in any combination. Radar, navigational data, three-dimensional electronic charts, photos, video and much more can be displayed at high resolution on as many monitors as necessary. All functions are accessed via the system's dedicated keyboard.
The Simrad GB60's three-dimensional generator is capable of displaying long- or short-range customised views of marine and coastal terrain, overlaid with the relevant maritime chart to bring the topography alive and show depth contours and other details. Uniquely, the Glass Bridge can display charts alongside satellite photographs to give an unparalleled view of the surroundings both above and below the water. The appearance of all these features may even be configured to match the time of day. Also housed in the system's black box is a dual-speed radar with virtually unlimited target tracking capability plus an overlay option that enables the user to double check chart information, confirm the presence of markings, receive AIS collision warnings from other vessels, and see all this relative to your own boat.
For onboard entertainment, the Simrad GB60 black box can control up to four video inputs and connect to several high-resolution cameras as well as the boat's audio system, all available via split-screen or multiple display units available in three sizes up to 19 inches across.
